The day before the Flame of Hope makes its Final Leg transit to the Special Olympics Kentucky State Summer Games it will make a brand new journey. On Thursday, June 3, Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Jose Wilkie will carry the Flame of Hope from Louisville to Frankfort in preparation for the Final Leg.
Deputy Wilkie will run from Southeast Christian Church on Blankenbaker Parkway to the State Capitol in Frankfort. His route will cover more than 36 miles that day along US 60 between the two cities. Wilkie, who has run in events up to 200-mile ultra marathons, will leave Southeast Christian at approximately 9:25 am and should arrive in Frankfort in the afternoon.
People are welcome to support Deputy Wilkie's run either through donations or by joining him for a portion of his run. Donations can be made in any amount. Runners must make a donation of at least $10 to run with Deputy Wilkie, but all runners will receive an official T-Shirt with their entry fee.
